Rehoming Assistance
Non-Judgmental Support
Non-Judgmental Support
This site is no longer being updated. My new site is Senior Dogs Rock.
You'll find all of this information and more!
I know how difficult it can be to find a new home for a pet, especially since many rescues right now aren’t able to take in owner surrenders. I volunteer with a couple of rescues and am familiar with the adoption process, so I’d love to help make sure your dog finds a safe and loving home.
The first step is seeing if a rescue can take your dog. I can provide you with a list of reputable rescues and even reach out to them on your behalf. If no rescues are able to step in, I can help with the next steps in rehoming.
While I’m not a rescue myself and can’t provide veterinary care, I can support you in other ways, like helping with an adoption application, screening potential adopters (including vet and personal reference checks), doing internet background searches, and setting up virtual home visits. I can also help get the word out by creating a detailed bio, photo collages, and even a YouTube video to showcase your pet.
Priority is given to senior and special needs dogs.
How it works:
We’ll chat over the phone so you can tell me about your situation and your dog.
You’ll provide photos of your dog (and videos, if needed).
I’ll use the information you share to craft a personalized biography for your dog.
I’ll send you the completed biography along with edited photos for you to post on social media and RescueMe.org. If I’m creating an adoption video, I’ll include that too.
Once your posts are live, you’ll handle initial adoption inquiries and collect completed applications. I’ll then screen the applications thoroughly for you.
I’ll stay in touch throughout the process, keeping you updated and ensuring you’re happy with every step. I’m here to provide as much or as little help as you need.
In order for me to create the biography for your dog, please provide the following details:
Name, Age, Breed, Weight
Are they spayed or neutered?
Are they up to date on shots?
Any known medical issues?
How do they get along with other dogs?
How do they do with cats?
How do they behave around children?
How are they with strangers?
Are they house trained?
Personality traits and quirks (Do they dance for food, spin when happy, love toys? What are their likes and dislikes?)
Do they enjoy walks? How do they behave on a leash?
Do they like to play or roam in a fenced-in yard? Is a fenced yard a must?
Feel free to add any other details you think someone adopting your dog would want to know.
You can forward this information to me via Facebook (scroll down and click logo) or by emailing me at seniorchisrock@gmail.com and I will create the biography.
Once it's ready, I will send it to you for posting along with photos on social media and on the Rescue Me website below.
I can post it on the Rescue Me site for you, if you prefer.
Always include in your posts that there will be a rehoming fee. You don’t need to specify the exact amount. While a rehoming fee doesn’t completely guarantee that someone with ill intentions won’t contact you, it significantly reduces the risk. This article talks more about why you always want to charge a fee: Never Give Away a Pet for Free
Here is the adoption application you can forward to people interested in adopting your dog. Clicking on the top right corner will open it in Google Docs.
If there are any additional questions you would like included, just let me know. Once you receive it back, I'm happy to screen it.
